AI is stealing from artists. 

Generative AI would not exist without the millions of human made artworks. It’s already hard to make a living as an artist. If you use generative AI, you are stealing from artists and enriching tech billionaires. I refuse to be a part of that. 

AI is destroying marginalized neighborhoods. 

AI datacenters consume an enormous amount of resources, often leaving the people living there without access to stable electricity and water supply. People also suffer serious long term health consequences due to sound and light pollution. This is not justifiable. Humans are more important than billion dollar companies. It’s crazy that we’re even debating this. 

AI is destroying the planet

What AI is doing to marginalized neighborhoods on a micro level, it is doing to planet earth on a macro level. Our beautiful planet is being destroyed by tech billionaires and those enabling them. We need Mother Nature to thrive and we need human made art! We don’t need datacenters, billionaires or AI slob.

AI is inherently biased, untrustworthy and known to hallucinate.

That is not going to change. As AI is trained by stealing random stuff from the internet without any restrictions or oversight, and as the internet is full of stupid shit, this will be reflected in the result. AI is stealing our critical thinking skills and causing psychosis. It’s giving “Emperors new clothes”! Even without the moral and ethical issues, it’s a problematic technology that should be used extremely critically.

AI is hurting your brand!

Costumers don’t like AI. They notice and think it looks cheap. They feel mislead and lose trust in your brand. Creating a logo and a brand identity your costumers feel connected to requires understanding of context and nuance, something AI will never do. AI will never be able to ask the questions required to contemplate when creating a logo. What most people don’t understand is that a logo is not just a pretty little illustration. It is a thoughtfully crafted piece of functional art with a very specific purpose – to build trust and create recognition with the right people. AI can only create a pretty little illustration in the best case. But it will be completely depleted from meaning, purpose and context.

The proof is in the pudding! I have nothing to hide. I always invite my clients into my creative process and they will often see me sketching or making ajustmets to a design in real time. Need proof? No worries, I have tons and I’m happy to share every part of my creative process. I dont believe in gatekeeping creativity anyway!

If you get a file with name ending in .ai, it does NOT mean it’s an AI generated file or that AI has been used in the creative process!

AI is (also) short for Adobe Illustrator, the industry standard software for designers, used by both Adobe in their branding and those of us who use it. That’s just another thing that sucks about AI, we as designers are being unnecessarily suspected of using AI and the burden of explanation is on us. 

Also: Yes I know that Illustrator has aAI feature that Im paying for. And no, I’m not even slightly interested in using it at all.
